Project Description
Reconstruction of Vaisigano Bridge and Approach Roads
Bluebird Construction was the main subcontractor to the main contractor Konoike Construction. Bluebird was contracted to carry out all excavations, earthworks, construction of coastal and river rock walls, construction of approaching road and connecting roads, landscaping and the complete demolition of the original Vaisigano Bridge. This was a great landmark of Samoa that Bluebird Construction is very proud to be a part of the team that constructed it.
Project Background
Cyclone Evan in 2012 caused serious damage to the old bridge, which made the replacement of the current bridge a priority. The project was funded by the Japanese International Co-operation Agency (JICA) offering a grant of $43 million (US$16.4 million) to build the new bridge.
The agreement between the Governments of Samoa and Japan was finally signed in 2017. Construction works for the Vaiasigano bridge began in May 2018 by the Japanese Konoike Construction company. The majority of the work was done by local sub-contractors with Bluebird Construction as the main subcontractor to the 27 months construction works.
